Lucky For You I'm Impatient!

I know I've hinted around about it but I just can't wait anymore! In a few days the World Breastfeeding Awareness Week will begin (August 1-7) and I have the most exciting giveaway for it! Bailey Medical has graciously donated one of their Deluxe Nurture III Breast Pump for my latest giveaway! "The Nurture III is the only small pump approved by the FDA for multiple users, so after you're finished with it, you'll be able to pass it along to a friend! It is safe for multiple women to use the same Nurture III Breast Pump motor, provided that each woman has her own collection set. Our Double Collection Kits contain everything needed for single or double pumping with the Nurture III except the motor."

I also love, love, love this company because they are small! They believe that "breastfeeding is an important step towards healthier children and a better society" and by purchasing a pump from Bailey Medical you are not only buying a great product but putting money into the pockets of real people with names and faces that you can see on their website! This is so different than purchasing a more popular brand of pump that goes towards big business. Plus Bailey Medical offers discounts to people with a limited income. How many companies do you know of that do that?

I'm guessing that right about now you would like details on how to win? It is simple. Just comment on why you have chosen to breastfeed or a tip that you may have on breastfeeding (I'm new to it so any advice I can get is greatly appreciated!) to get one entry into my randomly chosen raffle.

To get a second entry blog about the giveaway and comment a second time with a link to your blog. I told you it was simple.

Now for a few rules. You MUST live in the U.S. or Canada, you must have a blog or leave your email address so I can let you now if you win and the winner must send me their home address within 2 days of winning or a new winner will be selected. Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck to everyone! All entries must be received by 5:00 p.m. eastern August 7, 2008.

Breastfeeding is one of the main things I look forward to with my babies. It's always been a wonderful experience for me. I love it, they love it... ahhh.

And even going on my 4th baby and nursing MANY years, I've never owned a breast pump!!

i would love to win this so i could breastfeed in the future. i think there are many benefits especially that it is free, ready to go when the baby is (don't have to mix/heat anything) and it is good for mother/child bonding & obviously it's the best meal for your baby.

i have been on the fence about this for a long time going from absolutely not...to maybe...to hopefully yes if everything works out!!

although breastmilk is free, i have heard a good pump can cost hundreds of dollars so it would be great to get one for free! thanks for offering this great contest.

I LOVE breastfeeding for so many reasons! I love that I do NOT have to make a bottle, and make sure it is warm enough (and not too warm). I love being able to nurse anywhere, without the hassle of bottles and formula. But, it is nice to have a pump to store milk for the times you can't be there to nurse your baby, or if someone else wants to feed the baby.

Nursing tip: Buy a nursing cover, like Hooter Hiders/Bebe au lait. I just wrote about them on my site!

Thanks for this great giveaway and review! I would be happy to win!

i wish i had heard of them sooner! my favorite part of breastfeeding is that you don't have to mix formula or warm up bottles in the middle of the night. just bring my son into bed with me and get some extra zzz's while on the job. :)

I don't have a baby yet... but my husband has been insistant that I breastfeed (and I agree with him!) since it's so good for the baby. Of course I work full time so that will be a challenge which is exactly why I need this! jeepcutie82 at msn dot com

My tip is to keep trying. I ended up pumping exclusively with my now 2 1/2 year old son b/c I wanted him to get breast milk. I am now pregnant with my second child and will DEFINITELY try harder this time around. (I tried hard the first time, just could have tried harder now that I look back on it).. Great Giveaway.. would love to have it

I breastfeed because it just seemed like the right thing to do. My son and daughter both latched on within moment of being born and it was just amazing.

My daughter is pregant, and I am so glad she has chosen to breast-feed. I tried and my body did not agree. There is nothing better than looking down at that precious angel in your arms and them looking back into your eyes. My it is a bond that is so strong, and what a feeling as a women knowing that you are giving life to your child. I would love to give this gift to her because she feels as strong about this as I did.

Thank you for the most generous contest. I can tell you that I chose to breastfeed 2 of my three premature children. The first one I was told not to pump because my daughter was not expected to survive.
My tip would be to listen to your heart and if you wish to breastfeed to do all you can to allow it to happen and to relax as much as you can.

I chose to breastfeed for many reasons. Breast milk is free, easy and can be done anywhere, great connection with the baby, and the baby is healthier. It helps a lot with allergies too for the baby. I need a new breastpump for when I have my next baby too, my old one doesn't work all that well.

I am due with my second one in three weeks and would love to win this. I did not own one with my first one.
I breast fed my first one for 18 months and I loved it! I would not say it was easy. I had a couple of problems in the beginning including an inverted nipple and it took a lot of perseverance and patience. Once the two of us go used to each other tho it was wonderful. I also totally enjoyed not having to wash bottles all the time. Tho this time around I would like to get the baby used to the bottle too.

I would say keep at it, the first month is usually the worst. Long sleepless nights coupled with maybe bleeding and pain but it keeps getting better and soon it will be second nature. I was actually sad to stop but I had to, she was already too old for the breast.

Thanks for the fabulous giveaway.

I never got to breastfeed my first child, I had flat, dimpled nipples and the doctor and lactation consultant said to just pump. We couldn't afford to buy one, so we rented for two months. Then we were done.

With my son I was told the same thing, so I pumped and it took three months but finally after all that time I got my son to latch on. It's so wonderful to have him there and feel like I am helping him! No matter what: JUST KEEP AT IT!!!

Breast is best!!! I nursed my last baby for 2 years and my other for almost a year. I loved it! My sister is due in Jan. and is planning on breastfeeding so I'd love to give this pump to her as she is a working mom and plans on pumping. My tip would be to keep at it! So many moms say "I didn't make enough milk.." hogwash..you just need to nurse more, more more and build your supply!! My babies ate every hour at first and it's a little bit intimidating to a tired mama but it does get easier!

MOMFOREVERANDEVER said...

really the support network is needed..but also when they go down for a nap- you do it too- things and chores will wait- rest

and another big thing---you are feeding your child - so when people snicker and snear just ignore the ignorant out there..you are providing for your child, let them (the jerks) fall off a cliff

Dianna_Ball said...

Breastfeeding - what a riot. I wasn't sure I'd even last 6 months, but here it is 16 months and still going strong. She doesn't appear to have any desire to stop, so.....on I'll go.

My tip would be to just HANG IN THERE. It was really painful and difficult for me for many months (at least 3) but eventually my body gave in and it became as effortless and comfortable as I'd wanted it to be. I could have (easily) given up, but am so glad I didn't as we've now had months of happiness.

This would be for my granddaughter, who I know is planning to breastfeed. I have many tips I would like to give her, but will have to be careful, or will just get the 'eyeroll'. Stacey said...

I chose to breastfeed my daughter because I know how much healthier it is. I also know how much cheaper it is :) I also breastfed my son, and will breastfeed any future children. It just makes more sense ;)

As far as a tip... just be stubborn. Don't give up when it gets hard. Both in the beginning when you think you are going to die because your nipples hurt so bad, and when your baby decides to strike. You can do it!!

Cassie said...

My tip is to not rely too much on LLL. Instead, contact the lactation consultants at the local hospital.

Yay! I would love this - we're due in January with our first. I am a bit nervous about breastfeeding, but I'm definitely planning on it for the first year. Main reason, breast fed babies have a lower illness rate. The mothers milk can pass antibodies on to the baby, which I think they are not able to produce yet. Thanks for a great giveaway!!

Breastfeeding is the best way I can imagine to bond with your baby, plus it keeps them healthier and smarter! What's not to love?

When it comes to breastfeeding in public, which is a major hurdle for many women, my advice is to get yourself a Hooter Hider (or some other nursing cover with boning in the neck so you can see the baby) and just do it! You'll be amazed how few people will actually realize what you're doing, and the sooner you nurse in public, the sooner you'll get comfortable with it and start to see it as no big deal. With my first, I stayed locked up in the house for 2 months, and freaked out about having to nurse before leaving the house, and nursing in public ended up being way more difficult because of it. Just do it, it's really not as big a deal as you may make it out to be in your head.

I have a friend who is having a baby soon and she is going to try and imo succeed with breastfeeding but I would like to win this to help her. I know how important it is, but also not pressuring the mother is important too.

Sheila said...

My tip is the get a good sling. Slings are ideal for breastfeeders, it allows you to be handsfree while still breastfeeding your nursling and to multi-task with nursing and tending to chores around the house. It also keeps you hands free to nurse an infant while keeping up with a toddler. It also allows you to have a discreet place to nurse when you are in public. I can walk down the middle of the mall and nurse my baby and with my sling, nobody is the wiser :)

Unknown said...

I haven't breastfed yet, but I would definitely love to in the future! We've suffered with pregnancy loss and infertility for the past year, but just two weeks ago I had surgery to deal with all my problems. I'm hoping to breatfeed someday soon!! I plan to breastfeed because its so much healthier for both mom and baby (but especially baby). I can't say that I am not nervous though!

Reiza said...

I know you said either or, but I'll do both. I hope you don't mind.

I breastfed because I never considered anything else.

I fought to breastfeed because my daughters were born premature and I couldn't even touch them, but I could pump for them. I felt so helpless. They were our babies, but we couldn't do anything for them. They relied on doctors and nurses to keep them alive. We were their parents and we couldn't do anything for them. I knew my milk was exactly what they needed, so pumping for them really helped me feel like a mom. It was the only thing I could do for them. Later, I fought to get them both to the breast exclusively and they thrived on my milk. It helped keep them alive despite some scary medical stuff.

My biggest tip is to find a support group. For me, that was La Leche League. I found a wonderful group of women who helped me out SO much. Unfortunately, I didn't start going to meetings until my daughters were close to a year old. I could have prevented so many problems with the wealth of information those ladies have. When I had my son, though, I had no bfing problems, but I still relied on my LLL friends. They watched the bigger kids when an emergency came up. I didn't cook for more than a week after the baby was born because my LLL friends brought me food.

I wish I had that kind of support the first time around. I wish all moms had that kind of support. It really does make a world of difference.

The best tip I have is to relax. If you're not relaxed, it will not be a good experience for you or the baby. Thank you for the contest!

I have successfully breastfed a large brood of kids and m currently breastfeeding now. I would say my best tip is not to give up if you have problems at first. There are so many resources such as the LaLeche League that can provide the support and encouragement you need.

Suzie Williams said...

Congrats on your new addition! I'm currently nursing my 5 month old son and my 2.5 year old daughter. My daughter only nurses once a night and I've been trying to let her self wean and it hasn't worked like I thought it would so I've been nudging her along.

My best advice is to go with the flow. If baby wants to nurse earlier than usual, go for it. There's no need to worry about not making enough milk. Even knowing that with my daughter and telling all my friend's that when they had their babies, when my son was in the hospital last month I didn't get to nurse him for 4 days! When he finally started he seemed really unsatisfied and I felt so empty. It was really tempting to just make him a bottle but I kept rying to remind myself that I could get my supply up. After about a week of feeling empty and nursing him every half hour, we made it through bottle free and now he's back to his three-four hour stretches. Of course that's not always practical if you're a working mommy, but I share my story to offer encouragement that just because you don't feel full doesn't mean you'll never produce enough milk for your baby. The wonders of mother nature!

Feed the moose said...

Breastfeeding is a way of loving your baby. You are providing the best possible nutrients for a baby's health. You are also giving the baby time with you, and saving money which helps your own stress level!

Brooke said...

I chose to breastfeed my kids because, aside from ALL the physical benefits, I like how portable and endless the food supply is.

I have a pumping tip for you, though. Keep a constant supply of baby mags on hand. They're like porn for your boobs and you get let downs much more easily.

Samantha said...

I decided to breastfeed my baby because it is the natural thing to do. It's wonderful that there is reliable formula for unusual situations where breastfeeding doesn't work out, but it's obvious that breastfeeding is best. Thanks for the opportunity!

Anonymous said...

The World Health Organization and many other experts encourage women to breastfeed for as long as possible, one year or even longer, because human milk provides the best nutrition and protection against infections. (Breastfeeding Guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics) The AAP also recommends that infants consume breast milk exclusively for the first six months of life, thereafter combining breast milk with slowly introduced solid foods through the end of the first year.

Being a new mother is the greatest joy you can have in life, and I want to experience all the greatest that is has to offer, and give my daughter all the love I possibly can! What greater love and bonding is there between a mother and her baby than breast feeding! The baby makes an instant connection with you and it is the most precious time I spend with her! It is natural and healthy for the baby, it is easy - no bottles to deal with at all hours of the day and nigh, and no heating or cleanup to deal with! I really would love this breast pump as we are having more children as soon as possible!

Oh how incredible this would be. I B/Fed first baby and didn't get to do it as long as I wish I could have! I want to breastfeed baby #2 as long as I can as I know it helps increase immunity etc.

I would love to win this for my pregnant sister. I currently am nursing my second child and I can't imagine doing it any other way. My big advice is if you plan to still work full time and pump, like I do, get ahead when you are still on maternity leave. Starting pumping extra when your milk comes in. For me anyway, the pump isn't nearly as effective and it has been a lifesaver to have a freezer full!
