A Winner And An Awesome New Giveaway!

Congratulations to Elsie for winning the $25.00 gift certificate to Beadedbling.etsy.com!

Now for everyone else how about another giveaway? This time it is for the little guys. Baby sign language has always been something that has intrigued me. I bought a book on it when Madison was an infant and signed with her a little. The result was her knowing how to sign "more" and that was about it.
This time I've taken a much more active interest with signing with Stella and have already begun introducing some basic signs to her. I've also decided to use only ASL (AmericanSign Language) signing with her that way she can not only communicate with us but also friends of ours that are non-hearing. What is really fun to watch is Madison's interest in learning to sign also. One morning she inquisitively asked "Whatcha doin' non?" when I was signing with Stella and immediately wanted to learn too. It turns out she has already been learning the ASL alphabet at school!
I know that some parents don't agree with teaching babies to sign. They feel that this will prolong them from speaking. I disagree. Personally I beleive that babies can communicate much earlier than they can form words and signing allows them to do so. Many times toddlers throw temper tantrums and parents get frustrated because they can not figure out what the baby wants and the baby can't tell them. Having a baby that can sign may be able eliminate or at least reduce these types of tantrums! Here is a story and a video of my friend Danielle's baby Eliza signing that help to prove my point.
I recently got a collection of DVD's and Board Books in the mail from My Baby Can Talk. This collection is ASL based and has loads of awards. The books and dvd's were created for babies 10 months and older. Madison loves to watch the DVD's and both girls enjoy looking at the vibrant pictures in the books. I personally love the signing for dummies sections in the books. Every sign has diagram of how to hold your hand as well as directions as to how to move them. Trust me I need them!
Wouldn't you love this collection for your little one? Well lucky you 'cause I have one to give away too! The My Baby Can Talk collection includes...
  • 3 dvds First Signs, Exploring Signs and Sharing Signs
  • 3 board books First signs, Sharing Signs and Exploring Signs

If you were to purchase this it would cost over $75.00. It is well worth the cost but isn't everything better when it is free? To enter this giveaway...

  • please post a comment about who would be using the collection and why you want to sign with this little person.
  • Receive a second entry by blogging about this giveaway linking back to me and commenting letting me know that you blogged about it.
  • Make sure to leave me a way to get back to you.
  • The winner must contact me within 3 days of being announced or else I will select another winner.
  • This giveaway will end on Christmas Eve next week.
  • The winner will be announced Christmas Day.
Good luck to all that enter!

That is a great giveaway! I'm a believer in baby sign language and would love to be put in the drawing. The lovely baby I will be signing with is my boyfriend's newest niece, Evan.

I currently use MindBites.com to get all of my information on baby sign language, specifically here: http://www.mindbites.com/person/84-MySmartHands

But I would love to learn from DVDs and think it would be great to watch them with Evan snug on the couch over the holidays.

I would love this for both of my boys, age 10 months and 28 months. We have a couple of the Signing Time DVDs and they LOVE them but we do need more signs. My older son is so funny. He wants to sign as much as he can but when he doesn't know the sign to something he just goes with something similar. (i.e. he'll sign candy for grapes) Thanks so much!

I would love to win this for use with my son. He is a late talker and I've been working on signs with him. Right after his first birthday and on my daughter's first day of kindergarten he signed "more" to me while I was giving him his breakfast. It was one of the proudest days of my life for both my kids. We have been progressing but I think having some materials such as books and dvd's would help us both learn a wider variety of signs to use in our daily lives. I'm a strong believer in signing with toddlers and hope to continue his growth and continue to ward off tantrums caused by communication issues.
Thanks for the wonderful giveaway.

I would love this for my almost 12 month old son. I have been trying to teach him ASL, but so far no luck. His older brother started signing at 10 months and it was so wonderful to be able to communicate with him from 10 months until when he started to speak at 2 1/2 years old. Also, his older brother can help teach him too, but he needs to brush up as he's forgotten most of the signs he knew.

I would use this with my 2 and 1 year old kids. I've been wanting to teach them sign, as i've heard it makes it easier for babies to communicate earlier, without all the frustration of you not understanding them. This would be really great if I win. Thanks.

My sister has always wanted this for my nephew and I want to be the one to gift it to them. Please let me win.

Thanks for the giveaway! I would use this with my 13 month old daughter. Looks like a great program, sometimes it's hard to know where to start so I'm glad there's programs like this out there.

Annie said...

If I won I would use this with my 6 month old baby girl. We already sign for milk and we are working on eat. I think signing with baby not only allows them to develop a language, but ASL is becoming more common and even deaf children are being integrated into some schools. I would love to continue to learn, sign and teach her all the way till we are both good at communicating in ASL as a second language.
Our local college even will count ASL classes as your foreign language credits.

I would be using this for myself, I have taught my daughter some sign language with my mom cause she's a teacher with special needs students. But I want to broaden her signing
